Topic: “SEEKING GREENER PASTURE”

TEXT: RUTH 1:1–2

AIM: TO HELP US UNDERSTAND

• The meaning of greener pastures
• The reason people go for greener pastures
• When and where seeking greener pastures bus right or wrong

INTRODUCTION

 John was some time ago a secondary school students in a village. Then, he was about yo complete his studies, and was also very helpful to parents at home and on farm. One Christmas, some of his friends were living and studying in the city, came home for holiday. They told him a stories about the “ easy and pleasant " life in the city.

After they left,john began to dream of life in the city. He suddenly became tired of life in the village and would reluctantly go and help his parents in the farm after school. He concluded that his being in the village was “suffering". His heart was now in the city, and was willing  to anything to leave the Village.

While John's heart, in the story above, was seeking greener pasture in the city, Elimelech in our tezy/ passage actually carry his family away into moab to seek “bread" ( Ruth 1:1–2). But instead of good life,Elimelech died with his two sons in a foreign land,away from God. In what can we but like Elimelech?/What does “Greener Pasture" means? How can will avoid seeking greener pasture the wrong way? These are question this study seeks to answer

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

1.    a. Explain in your words, what you understand by the word “greener pasture"?

        b. From the following passage (Ezekiel 3:8_17; 23:1-2,Ezekiel 34:14.

2.    a. From this passages (Ruth 1:1; Genesis 12:10-15; Judges 11:1–3 cf. Gen 21:10), why do families and individual leave their places of origin ( abode) or their way of life for another?

      b. Why do you think students look for “miracle centers " to write or rewrite their ,S.S.C.E. as a greener pasture ? Is it right for a Christian students to do this? Why or why not?

3.   What are (a).       The right way to seek “greener pastures "? Gen 26:1–6;46: 1–5

     (b) The wrong ways to seek “greener pastures"? Ruth 1:1, cf. Debut 23:3,4,6; Ps 32:8,9; cf. Prov. 14:12.

CONCLUSION:

Seeking greener pastures may not be wrong in itself but it must have God's leading and approval . Jecob and his family moves to Egypt for greener pastures but God was there with them. Isaac the same cannot be said of Elemelech. He want in disregard to God or His Word, and unlike Abraham, Isaac and Jecob,the did not return alive.
